Singapore – Phuket – Burma
To be quite honest, the trip was quite a disappointment because the manta rays and whale sharks stood us up when we’re supposed to be right smack in the middle of season, and most importantly, they’re the reason for me missing a week of school. It’s not evident in the photos below, but everyone was pretty bummed out.
BUT, other than the absence of the mantas and whale sharks, burma has magnificently beautiful coral reefs and pretty healthy marine eco system. We saw many many things that were pretty new, and i’ve never seen so many schools of fish in one place before.
and of course, the company made up for everything.

traipsing phuket

the sights got a little boring after a while,
and i kept seeing my reflection from alvin’s helmet.

streets of phuket

patong beach. it was really just a touch-and-go thing.

street food!!

brave parents who brought their 7-month old to the trip. baby kyra!

dive computers

looking into 30m deep waters, and you can still see the reefs

shark cave, which ironically was void of sharks..
they were saying it should be named shark-less cave instead

how can a dive trip not have a mandatory sunset shot?

Counting down to some underwater bubble-breathing time..
Burma Banks!!

I’m actually leaving for a week right before the onset of a very crucial time in school. As i was telling a friend – this is as extreme as skipping school (shh..) can get for me.
but.. like ivan (the organiser) said, it’s burma banks.
hopefully, it will be safe and worthwhile.

”It’s never about taking perfect pictures; just perfect moments.”

punked. when ernest walked into my room with a beanie on his head.

kids in a box. the niece/nephews playing with a vacated box.

fly. the kids’ favourite request to hy and i, but they’re getting increasingly bigger and out of my league.

serenity. datou slumped on his current favourite sleeping place. i love photos of him in unguarded luxurious sleep.

fleeting. taken at dad’s garden. none of the butterflies stayed at a flower long enough for me to capture a shot, so this is really one of the ‘in the moment’ shot.

icon of all ninth of augusts. the chinook and accompanying apaches flying over the national stadium with the sunset painting different colours on the clouds.

fireworks festival. short-lived bursts of redorangegreenblueyellowpurple.

kapalai resort. sabah. caught a shot of a japanese couple getting ready for snorkelling.

goby, shrimp, and eel. kapalai. sabah. staying motionless in the strong current, waiting for 15 minutes for the goby fish to let its guard down, and allow his partner, the blind shrimp (you can only see the feelers poking out of the hole) to resume its work of digging the hole that they share. the little blue eel is a pleasant additional “house-guest”

mandarin fishes. kapalai. sabah. an hour of staying almost motionless at the cold sea-floor at dusk, waiting to steal a moment that the colourful mandarin fish family cautiously comes out of the rocks to check us out.

小笼包。 shanghai. a shot of mervyn tucking into the &^#(@^$-ly delicious dumplings in the background.

sperm whale. kaikoura. new zealand. this is the photo that best showcases the magnificence of seeing this huge mammal in the sea. the loud purges of air as they surface to breath, and the swirling of currents around them as they get ready to dive back into the deep.

wheee. somewhere in new zealand. a group of teenagers gleefully diving into frigidly cold waters of a lake.

ankor wat at dawn. siem reap. cambodia. a very short-lived sunrise, with the 5 “peaks” of ankor wat in the foreground.

planting rice is never fun. kampot. cambodia. visited a villager’s place which going around kampot, coincidentally, they’re harvesting rice. over here, they’re hitting the rice kernels out of the stalks.

into the sunset. kampot. cambodia. a boat going into the fiery sunset.
I wanna escape. into the land of photos, and the big unknown.
where.. i just dont understand

it’s one of those days..
where there is a dark cloud that never goes away;
where all that i do just doesnt seem.. enough;
where i dislike myself for getting tired;
where 24 hours a day is again, insufficient;
where the rest of my world is smiling, yet i’m the only one who’s not;
where i want to be anywhere but here;
where all i want to do is to go home;
unfortunately, “one of those days” falls on a day that i cannot get home before 11.
that lead me straight to you

every long lost dream, led me to where you are
others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
pointing me on my way into your loving arms
this much i know is true
that God blessed the broken road, that led me straight to you
