In chronological order:

WTF #1:
A few weeks ago, I was walking home from Simei MRT station and when I was reaching home, this girl from a tertiary institute near my place approached me and asked, “excuse me, can you lend me some money because I am very thirsty and I want to buy a drink.”

I was a little taken aback, because it wasn’t as though she was dying of thirst, and her school is just 2 minutes away. Yet, I felt bad for rejecting her, so I said (and it’s true), “sorry, I dont have change.” And she said, “oh never mind, we can walk to the MRT and exchange some money.”

Widening my eyes in surprise at the ridiculousness of the statement, I said, “no.”

Wtf. you want me to walk all the way back to Simei to exchange money so I can give it to you to buy a drink??

WTF #2:
Bryant told me this story. He and his friends were eating at Seoul Garden (dont ask me why) a few days ago and there were these two Sec 3 boys sitting at the table beside them. Because Bryant and his friends were pretty loud, and cracking jokes that Sec. 3 boys will find extremely interesting and bold, the boys were laughing together with them at their jokes and antics.

And after a while, the boys left. But not long after, one of the boys came back and asked Bryant and his friends, “excuse me, I know I dont know you guys very well, but can you lend me $10?”

So Bryant asked, “what do you need the money for?”

And the boy said, “I want to go arcade to play games.”

WTF #3:
I read in yesterday’s papers that more teenagers between 10 and 18 are contracting STDs. And more teenagers are becoming sexually active at the age of 11.

They usually meet their sex partners in school, naturally. If not, then it’s on the internet, or randomly. Some got to know their sex partners on public transports like the MRT.

11! MY GOD. I didn’t even know what exactly is “sex” when I was 11!!

Yes, so, I really hope that these are just the outliers of the general teen population nowadays because these are just atrocious behaviour, don’t you think?

What kind of values have parents nowadays been teaching their kids? Getting money from strangers to fulfill your superficial wants? Knocking yourself up or contracting sex diseases when you’re not even at the age to know enough to protect yourself?

Maybe you can blame the sex part on the proliferation of the internet, still, I think it’s up to parents/family to instill proper values in their children. And getting money from strangers? If you’re that thirsty, go drink tap water. If you don’t have the money to play arcade games, THEN DONT.

Goodness. I dont remember having the courage even to ask for money from strangers when I was younger, and especially not for reasons like the abovementioned examples. It’s not about the money, it’s about the reasons that you’re asking for it. Let kids be kids, I mean, they are supposed to suffer a little to appreciate the luxuries in life. Lets not stuff their adolescent years with pursuits for luxurious wants that are beyond their means, and lets keep them free from unwanted pregnancies and STDs.

Just let them bask in the innocence of childhood for a little bit longer.

Am I being old-fashioned here? Haha.

Don’t need strong men

There is comfort to know that your girlfriends will be there to support you (by turning into laborers) when your ambitious plans to transport 2 huge boxes of furniture from IKEA in overestimated saloon cars threatened to fail.

It was quite a hilarious sight, as an afterthought. 3 girls spending almost half an hour trying all ways to cram the huge rectangular box into my mum’s car. I’d have taken photos if I wasn’t panicking myself.

Ting and Ngia: We should have taken the parts out of the boxes.. It would have definitely been easier to squeeze them into the car

Tadaa. New tables for the pavilion!

Oh my god

This is what came out from the hairstyle photoshoot.

I think it looks cool if I didn’t know me. Honestly, I’m not really used to this… looking-at-me-but-knowing-it’s-not-really-me kinda photo. There’s another solo photo… but it’s quite embarrassing so I shan’t post it up. Haha. But again, it’s a good experience with doing 1-hour make-up session and have everyone fussing over your hair during the photoshoot. I don’t think I will experience this often.

I told Bob and gang to pin this photo at their bedside and no scary monsters will ever scare them in their sleep again. And Bob replied, “hey look.. KISS and Slipknot’s newest members! Hahahahahahaha”

Oh wow, I just found out something incredible.

I’ve been feeling very lethargic lately, constantly feeling moody and lousy about myself. I think it’s evident from my constant whining about wanting to get away. Also, my body’s been acting strangely, like my appetite’s out of whack and I don’t feel like I’ve had a good night’s sleep even though I slept longer than usual.

Also, on another note, I’ve reduced my exercising to about a third of my normal routine for about 3 weeks now due to the burnout from the triathlon, and then subsequently my mens cramps, and then fueled on by a lack of inertia.

So, after feeling lousy (mentally and physically) for so long and not knowing why, I had a eureka moment. Maybe I was suffering from sports withdrawal? If such a thing even existed?

So, I googled – sports withdrawal –
Nothing I hoped to see.

Then, I googled – sports withdrawal symptoms –
Still nothing. It’s mostly news about football and such.

Then, I changed another word – exercise withdrawal symptoms -
Now we’re talking. The query returned so many websites about exercise withdrawal symptoms – all talking about pretty much the same stuff:

“A new study found that when individuals who engaged in regular moderate physical activity stopped exercising for even one week, they experienced negative mood changes, especially feelings of fatigue, loss of vigor, and increased tension. After withdrawal from exercise for two weeks, participants felt further fatigued and experienced symptoms of depression and guilt. In addition, decreases in fitness levels were observed after two weeks of no exercise. Those who began the study with highest levels of fitness experienced the greatest loss of fitness level and the greatest feelings of depression.”

Withdrawal_From_Exercise_Can_Lead_to_Depression.htm

“At one and two weeks, Berlin and her team evaluated participants for somatic (i.e., body-related) symptoms of depression such as fatigue, poor appetite, difficulty sleeping and low energy, as well as mental symptoms such as irritability, sadness and self-criticalness.”

So such a theory really exists! Time to get the heart pumping and start releasing some endorphins.

New Hair

October 11, 2009

Agreed to help my hair stylist out for a photo shoot with a conceptual new hair. It’s supposed to be a bob while encompassing hard lines. I agreed without thinking, since I’m very comfortable with short hair. Alas, he told me that he will dye my hair deep purple with metallic green highlights. I’ve never even thought about getting green hair, but… what the heck, you only live once.

For uploads
On my left and right side. It’s supposed to be super straight, but I think the humidity got it all curled up.

见鬼!The look for the photo shoot was like biker chick and goth gone wrong. I had to wear synthetic leather pants and leather jacket with metal studs and chains all over it. On top of me not ever thinking about getting green hair, I never thought I’d ever apply black lipstick as well. Good experience, definitely. I couldn’t recognise myself, which might not be a bad thing. Can’t wait to see how the photos turn out.

After one week of asymmetrical hair, I’m getting tired of it. It’s neither short nor long, and maintaining it to that pristine photo shoot quality is a little bit of a challenge. I’m wondering what else I can do about it…

President Obama wins the Nobel Prize. Wow. Took me by surprise, although I think that he deserves to win.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33237202/ns/politics-white_house

Have been feeling rather listless lately. There are so many things to do, and yet I cannot find the motivation to do them. Read a quote somewhere that everyone has the same 24 hours, even people like Thomas Edison or President Obama. I should be doing more to achieve what I need to get done.

Got back one of the papers that I had to write and I scored a C+. The person I was 2 years ago wouldn’t have given a horse shit about a C+, but things have changed. C+ now delivers a blow that questions my ability to deliver as a student. I think this question comes up this time every semester – I really don’t know why I can’t seem to process information and churn them out into coherent, well-argued reports, concepts and ideas the way others can.

I realised, too, that my grammar sucks. I’m contemplating to buy Primary English or some Secondary school grammar assessment books (do they even have that?) to brush up my grammar.

Porta Porta

October 7, 2009

Dont have photos of the food because the lighting wasn’t good – dim white lights. which reminds me of a review that I once read of that place, where the guy brings all his first dates there, and recommended everyone to do the same because it’s “very romantic”. Hmm. I question that person’s romantic tastes.

But the food was absolutely fantastically supremely sublime. This place TOTALLY rocks any bistro off their socks.
